When I was in the 6th grade ,I saw my first Off-Broadway show at the Merriam Theater. It was a class trip to see Sarafina. I sat 2nd row ,stage left, aisle seat. The exhilarating and emotional roller coaster ride performance had my young eyes so captivated. There was a moment I glanced over to the audience in the center and noticed they were just as fascinated by what they were seeing as me. I remember whispering
“I want to do that”.
I learned from that performance art should engage, impact and excite the audience’s senses. My artistic expression is crafted from that moment.
